All the big two wheeler companies from different countries are looking towards the Indian market. What is the reason? Answer is, the Indian two wheeler market became the largest two wheeler market of the world. Which is attracting companies and increasing the competition in performance bike segment as well as commuter segment. Currently, many high performance bikes are competing in this market to get the number one position. Some of the bikes are competing on the basis of their affordable price, some on the basis of good looks and some on the basis of their high power.
The Austrian motor company KTM, which is world renowned for its orange monsters and amazing off roading machines. KTM Bikes is also targeting the Indian market with their high performance motor bikes. In the Indian market, Bajaj is doing marketing job for the company. KTM's introduction bike was Duke 200 in the Indian market through which, company got huge success. Now after observing demand of high performance bikes in the market, KTM has launched Duke 390. The best thing about the bike is, the bike is most powerful bike in its price range. Even there is not any bike at the double price of Duke 390 which can match the power of this bike. But it don't mean that the bike is lesser in the matter of looks, the bike is perfectly designed for naked sport. Lets get into the detailing and try to feel the bike.
First, we talk about the design features of Duke 390. Like Duke 125 and Duke 200, Duke 390 is also a naked street bike but with more powerful engine. Not only the theme, but also the design of all of these bikes are quite similar. Bike comes with orange and black graphics, which is the tradition of the company. Bike has got aggressive head lamps in a perfect street bike pattern. A muscular fuel tank of 11 liter capacity with extending flaps in front giving a massive look to it. A fully digital insrument cluster has been used, which is clear to read. Seat of the bike is in split pattern and designed for better look and comfort. Under seat rear mudguard covers the half of its rear tyre while the rest half is covered by a horizontal rear mudguard. The space between rear tyre and the seat is large, which gives a sports bike look to the bike. An open type chain cover has been used in it for enhancing the beauty of the bike. A cage type design has been used in the naked chassis which cages its engine. The naked chassis has been painted orange to enhance the looks and playing the most important role in making the bike, a monster. Attractive 10 spoke alloy wheels enhancing the look. Engine cowl has been given to the bike with snorty design and graphics.
When we talk about its performance, the power plant of the bike a single cylinder, 4- stroke, liquid cooled, 4- valve, SOHC engine of 373.2cc displacement. This engine churns a maximum power of 44bhp at 9500 rpm and a peak torque of 35 Nm at 7250 rpm which goes through a chain drive to power the rear wheel. Liquid cooling ensures proper cooling which helps in long rides by continuous cooling. Four valves have been used in the engine, which makes its aspiration better, thus improving power output of engine while maintaining the fuel economy. The bike has a contact less controlled, fully electronic ignition system with digital ignition timing adjustment for better ignition control at various engine speeds.
Now, here we come on the comfort and safety features of the bike. Bike has a mono shock suspension at the rear and telescopic suspensions in the front for better comfort. To control the speed, a 300 mm disc brake with four-pot brake caliper is provided at the front wheel while a 230 mm disc brake with one-pot brake caliper and floating brake disc has been used at rear wheel. ABS technology is optional which helps in better stability of vehicle during braking. A six speed gear box is used to control the power with one down and five up shift pattern. For gear shifting, a claw type lever has been used.
The price of this amazing monster has been held around 1,80,000 Rs. Which is very affordable for this much high performance bike. In this price range, other high performance bike is Honda CBR 250 which is a racing sport bike with full body fairing in a racing manner. Power performance of CBR 250 is lesser than Duke 390 as it has lower displacement engine. To stay forward in competition, Honda recently introduced Repsol edition of CBR 250 with exciting repsol racing graphics. Now we have to seen that the new sporty graphics of a bike can beat another's power or not and KTM RC 250 a 250cc bike from KTM to be launched in India by 2014.
