Japanese auto giant Honda's flagship automatic scooter Activa is ruling the automatic scooter arena in India for a decade now. Now, TVS has launched a tough competitor for the Activa, a new family scooters called Jupiter.Both the scooters have everything, which a common Indian family want from their ride, so it is pretty obvious that one can get confused between the two. To make things easier for you, we are doing a detailed comparision.
Design: Both the scooters have been made on rigid under bone type frame for better durability. Honda Activa has an overall dimension of 1761mm x 710mm x 1147mm (length X width X height) with a wheelbase of 1238mm. seat height of the scooter is 765mm including the ground clearance of 153mm. TVS jupiter is a little bigger than the Activa, it has an overall dimention of 1834 x 650 x 1115 mm with a wheelbase of 1275mm. This increased dimension provides some extra space in Jupiter, which has been used to increase the leg space of the scooter. Both the scooters look almost similar in appearance and suits both male and female riders, However, the Jupiter has a more aggressive looking by its aerodynamic front apron having stylish front blinkers on it. Jupiter offers four colours to choose from Black, White, Grey and Red, while Activa comes in one extra shade along with these four, which is Purple Metallic.
Features: Honda Activa features an anti-theft Key Shutter ensuring safety of your vehicle, more efficient Combie brake system and a convenient lift-up independent body cover with click mechanism. It comes with a low maintenance battery and viscous air filter, requires lesser attention. TVS Jupiter is fully loaded with the never seen before features in the segment like under seat mobile charger, parking brake, largest 90/90-12 tubeless tyres, low fuel indicator, retractable bag hooks, Patented E-Z Centre Stand, twin pilot lamps, LED tail lamp, easily accessible kick-start and Econometer which makes it a temptation for the buyers.
Convinience: Honda Activa has a 18 litres under seat boot space with optional inner box for storing stuffs, while the under seat boot space of Jupiter is 17 litres. Both of the scooters come with a wide seat. Jupiter uses gas charged rear suspension with front telescopic suspensions for extra comfortable ride, while Activa comes with the regular spring loaded hydraulic type suspensions at both the front and rear. Jupiter also has external fuel fill system, which comes under seat in the Activa.
Engine: Both are 110cc scooters. Activa comes with a 109cc, air cooled, 4 stroke OHC engine, which churns out a power of 8bhp at 7500rpm and a torque of 8.74Nm at 5500rpm. Jupiter is powered by a 109.7cc, 4 stroke, single cylinder, air Cooled, OHC engine, which delivers a power output of 7.88bhp at 7500rpm and a torque output of 8Nm at 5500rpm, which is slightly lower than Activa.
Mileage: Honda Activa claims to deliver upto 60kmpl mileage, while Jupiter claims to return a slightly higher 62kmpl.
Brand value: Honda is numero uno scooter brand of India and known for its best quality products. Although, TVS is not new in the field and played well for many years with its popular scooterette Scooty.
Price: Price of Honda Activa is Rs. 47,596, while TVS Jupiter will cost you only Rs. 44,204, which is Rs. 3,392 lesser. (Both Prices are ex-showroom, Delhi)
Verdict: Both of the scooters are good and giving a tough competition to each other. However, this time TVS Jupiter is looking more value for money deal with a huge number of features at a very affordable price.
